To Grade or not to Level

Sweaty hands, racing pulse, trouble inhaling and exhaling. These are several of the things a lot of students might experience right before, or even throughout a test. Jerry Farber gives some very interesting alternatives to testing also to the whole grading process within an article this individual wrote named, " A new person's guide to the grading system”. (Farber 1969)

In A small persons guide to the grading system (Farber 1969) Farber has some revolutionary ideas for transform that unfortunately, may not be given serious attention enough to invoke modify. Although for me his ideas are certainly something that could benefit many learners in many ways. In brief, what Farber says can be, instead of grading with A's and F's, schools could use something he calls the " credit system”. He goes on to declare " In case you meet the lowest requirements of the course, you get credit rating for it. No A's or perhaps C's or silver celebrities, just credit”. (Farber 1969) The best part on this is if you may not meet the minimal requirements absolutely nothing happens. Being a student that certainly challenges when it comes times for a test out, I would like to find out some of his ideas executed in schools.

How school performs now, if you try your better but still don't meet the lowest requirements from the course, it may greatly influence your grade point average. It can possibly affect your financial aid or perhaps get it removed completely. As well, students must pay again to re-take the class, as a result adding more money on to the student loans. How turn off to learning this kind of becomes. Rather than really wanting to learn, school becomes more of learning just what you have to learn to pass a class.

Is this what school should certainly be regarding? Only learning what we must? I believe Farbers ideas would likely make school a lot more relaxed, thus opening up the doors to free learning. Looking at this kind of from the point of view in the student who also struggles with test...
